Fire and safety basics
The Occupational Safety and Health Act applies to workplaces, including event venues and supplier work areas. Use it as your base standard for safety checks.
- Exits are open, unlocked, and easy to see
- Exit signs are visible or well lit
- Fire extinguishers are present and serviced
- Staff know the assembly point and evacuation route
Crowd flow and access
- Entry and exit paths are not blocked by decor or vendors
- Seating layout allows clear movement for service staff
- Accessible routes are clear for guests with mobility needs
- Parking and drop off flow does not block emergency access
Food hygiene and sanitation
Food safety is guided by the Public Health Act. Confirm the caterer has the right licenses and medical certificates for staff.
- Valid food hygiene license for the catering company
- Food handler certificates for all service staff
- Clean handwashing points for staff and guests
- Waste collection plan and bins on site
Security and access control
Private security firms in Kenya are regulated by PSRA. Use licensed firms and ask for proof of registration.
- Security firm license or registration proof
- Guard names and assignment list for the event
- Clear bag check and entry rules
Power and generator safety
- Generators are placed outdoors with clear airflow
- Fuel is stored away from guest areas and heat sources
- Cables are covered or taped down to prevent trips
- A licensed technician is on call for setup and checks
Medical and first aid
- First aid kit is stocked and easy to reach
- At least one trained first aider is on site
- Ambulance plan is in place for large guest counts
- Incident log is ready for any injuries or illness

- Venue safety contacts and evacuation plan
- Catering licenses and staff certificates
- Security firm registration proof
- Supplier insurance or liability cover where available
- Emergency contact list for the event day
